That's exactly how I feel, like somebody took a little Boy Scout hatchet and whanged me right between the eyes. Stupid stupid headache.

S is on vacation this week so we're enjoying matinee prices at the movies. Monday we saw "Lilo & Stitch" which was really a lot of fun. Lilo reminded me of what Lenore would be like if, instead of being a cute lil' dead girl, she was a disturbed living Hawaiian girl drawn with a racially insensitive nose. I would give this movie an A-, with the minus for these things: 1) The Elvis bits, as I loathe Elvis. Unfair? Maybe, but it's my LJ and I can say what I want. 2) It was derivative in some places. I appreciate a nod as much as the next person, but the build-and-destroy bit was lifted straight out of Calvin & Hobbes. 3) I thought the ending was a little over-the-top goofy, just a little too happily ever after. 4) I don't like feeling manipulated into crying, and I think that's what the Stitch-is-lost scene was attempting to do. Still, an A- from me is very generous, and it's all due to Lilo acting delightfully weird. Pudge "controls the weather"? Well, maybe he does.

Then we saw "Minority Report" which is definitely an "E-ticket" ride. Thank you, P. K. Dick, for yet another weird and cynical future. This movie has been reviewed to death, so let me just say that I thought it was really something. What intrigued me most (here and in "Blade Runner") was how comfortable, how at-home the characters (actors?) seemed with this future: the technology, the culture, their living quarters, etc. The opening scene with Anderton orchestrating the data screen was a thing of beauty and sent me into my usual "slack jawed with admiration" bit.

I wanted to write more but just can't with this headache. Grr.
