I'm tired, and tiny thoughts, or thoughtlettes, are about all I can manage right now.

Today I participated in a usability test at the Evil Empire. It was a fun, educational, and highly lucrative activity, which made up for the hour it took to get there and the hour it took to get back. A pox on our traffic. I can't tell you about the test because then I'd have to kill you.

Movies! I'm on a movie kick right now, possibly because it gives us an excuse to keep the lights off and avoid going out into the heat. Today we saw Shiri, a Korean action flick chosen to satisfy S's need for sniper rifles and high body counts. 'Nuff said. Then we watched O Brother, Where Art Thou?, which is yet another bizarre and beautiful offering by the Coen brothers. I never saw this in the theater because I was irritated by people demanding that I go see it. Now I have to say, why didn't anybody force me to see it when it was in the theater? I love stylized movies above all other kinds, and I think I actually got some drool on myself during moments where I was slack-jawed with admiration. Finally we watched The Interview, a marvelous Australian film starring Hugo Weaving (Elrond and Agent Smith) as a man brought in for questioning by a detective who uses questionable methods to get results. This is another film that should have been seen in the theater, but it was only here during SIFF and I couldn't find the time. This film deserves every award it won, and those were legion. It reminds me of the books by the great British police procedural author John Wainwright.

Tomorrow the Monkeyboy and I attempt to engineer his butt onto a plane to the land that time forgot. When we tried this last year, it became apparent that the two of us together don't add up to a single responsible adult. This year we will double- and triple-check everything. Ticket? Keys? Luggage? We have auxiliary backup adults on standby in case something goes terribly awry. I will get to spend several more days hanging out in the urban apartment (which may not be so desirable since it gets way too hot in the summer) playing with the cats. I guess if it gets unbearably hot, I can shave the cats. They'll thank me, right?

sure they will ...

You do remember that both of those cats have all their claws, right?

We've been thinking of shaving the Dumbest Cat in the Universe. Well, we've been thinking of paying someone else to shave her, because I certainly don't want to do it myself.

Ick. Ick, ick, ick. I *hate* hot weather. Are you going to be up to going out this week?

We just had a thunderstorm, with hail and thunder and lightning and everything, and now it's way cooler and very pleasant. She says smugly.

Of course, it was a zillion degrees all day, hot enough to melt Chapstick. Memo to self: to not leave red lipstick on its side in summertime.
