I just wanted to clear the air, because one shouldn't lie to one's LJ. I fake the time to get entries on the right day. Whew! I'm glad that's done.
I found out today that our beloved C was very nearly killed yesterday on his cycle by a psychopath in a Volvo. I've said it before and I'll say it again: Volvos have to be the safest cars in the world because Volvo owners are the worst drivers on the planet. SUVs are bad, but Volvos are worse. The day Volvo makes an SUV is the day I sell my motorcycle. We are all very grateful he survived and will pray for divine retribution against the nutjob.
Book club was small but feisty, just myself and the two founders. I feel honored and privileged to be able to discuss books with JR who is both a scholar and a gentleman. Fortunately, the club liked my book choice; they were pleasantly surprised to learn that Clive Barker writes more than gory horror. Another author done a disservice by Hollywood. Next month: A Wizard of Earthsea.
Much of what is going on for me right now is not making it into this journal, or appears only in private entries. We are, some of us, in a strange and elaborate dance right now. I don't know the steps and I don't know where we will be when the music stops. I can only take the hands of my partners and ask them to guide me.
I stole the rest of this from the LJ of a dear friend of a dear friend. No, silly, not the answers. Those are mine own, such as they are.
FAVORITE HOLIDAY OR TIME OF YEAR: I hate holidays. My favorite time of year is dependent on the weather. I love spring days without rain, summer days that aren't too hot or rainy, crisp and rain-free autumn days, and winter nights when it's not raining.
FAVORITE HALLOWEEN COSTUME: I went as a dead person one year and climbed into a body bag (unused, doy) and tottered around the office in it. Great fun until my co-worker zipped the front all the way up. Har de har har.
FAVORITE GAME/SPORT (TO WATCH OR TO DO): When I was younger, I was a fiend for German soccer. I was unhinged about the sport. Now I only watch Winter Olympics sports, or baseball if we have free tix.
MEMBER OF: All of my professional memberships (ASTD, SHRM) have lapsed. Now I belong only to two book clubs.
FAVORITE WAY TO RELAX: Hang out with friends, play with animals, wander through parks.
FAVORITE FOOD & DRINK: Chocolate anything and Oregon Chai.
FAVORITE GUILTY PLEASURE(S): Erasure!
FAVORITE WEBSITE(S): Sluggy Freelance, Brunching Shuttlecocks
FAVORITE MOVIE: The Emperor's New Groove. Runner-up: Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring
FAVORITE BOOK: I cannot narrow this down to one. Give me Kij Johnson's The Fox Woman, Jonathan Carroll's The Land of Laughs, and the entire 20-volume Aubrey/Maturin series by Patrick O'Brian. Yes, I'm a big cheater.
FAVORITE MAGAZINE: Modern Ferret, bless their fuzzy hearts.
CURRENTLY READING: P. G. Wodehouse The World of Mr. Mulliner
FAVORITE MUSIC: You've never heard of any of it. Industrial, dark ambient, apocalyptic folk.
CURRENT REIGNING CD: A compilation I made myself. See above.
FAVORITE RADIO STATION: Classic KING, which is possibly the best classical music station in the world.
FAVORITE SMELLS: The sleep smell that ferrets give off (smells like popcorn or Fritos), woods, Chai
DREAM CAR: Used to be a Lagonda. Heck, it may still be a Lagonda. Haven't really thought about it.
FIRST CAR: A '78 Honda Accord LX nicknamed "Little Brutus Car" because it would betray me with a mechanical breakdown when I least expected it.
TYPE OF CAR I DRIVE NOW: A new Honda Accord LX sedan. Well, at least I'm consistent.
QUALITIES I MOST ADMIRE: Creativity, grace, generosity, wit
QUALITIES I MOST DISLIKE: Bigotry, ignorance, cruelty
FAVORITE SUBJECT TO STUDY: Natural history
LEAST FAVORITE SUBJECT(S): Poli-sci
HOBBIES: I don't think I have any.
PET PEEVE (OR BIGGEST FRUSTRATION): People who don't see me on my motorcycle when I'm RIGHT FREAKING THERE!!!
PERSONAL ECCENTRICITY: I run on a 30-hour day, not a 24-hour day.
WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD: Feeling like I've let somebody down or disappointed him or her.
WHAT TIME IS MY BAD TIME OF DAY: The dying hours between 2 and 5 a.m. when everyone is asleep except me.
FIRST MEMORY: I think I've repressed so many memories, and I'm no longer sure what's real and what's not from childhood.
A FAVORITE MEMORY: Bug and the hammer. Snortle.
I KNEW I WAS REALLY A GROWN UP WHEN: I successfully bought my first car despite overwhelming odds and drove it home without technically knowing how to drive a five-speed.
MY BEST VACATION WOULD BE: Fifteen days in a location of great natural beauty, doing exactly what I want, when I want, with somebody to feed me and pick up after me.
PERSON I WOULD MOST LIKE TO MEET (DEAD OR ALIVE): I am far too shy to meet famous people. Elijah Wood, maybe, to see if he is that hot in real life.
I COLLECT: Weasel stuff and antiquarian books of nature stories.
GREATEST DREAM (OR: IF I WON THE LOTTERY, I WOULD): I have no dreams, great or otherwise. I would donate a lot of money to ferret shelters and the California legalization effort. I'd like to live in different European capitals for a few months. Gee! Maybe I'd buy a Honda Accord V6!
Who's next?
