This afternoon for Father's Day we took the girls out to a park. I was a little worried because it was pretty warm in the sun and of course they don't tolerate the heat at all. But we managed to stay mostly in the shade, and there were two creeks and a duck pond to sit near where the air was cooler. We had them on short leashes while they explored the steep-ish creek banks. Kaylee drank a little water and then took it into her tiny noggin to plunge in. Now this creek couldn't be more than five feet across at most and maybe six inches deep, but mind you she is a *very* small animal and not much of a match for the miniature current. I never let go of the leash and she floated maybe about four feet before I fished her out. I couldn't help but think of the story in which Pooh et al are on an Expotition to find the North Pole, and Roo falls in the creek and is mildly swept away. Of course, he informs everybody in earshot that, look at me! I'm swimming! Did you see what I was doing? That was called swimming! Kaylee has an expressive face, and did I detect just a hint of satisfaction?

They are completely zonked, poor little mites, and have been asleep since we got home eight hours ago.

It sounds like a lovely day.
I wonder if she felt like a wee river otter.

Who knows what goes through her little peanut head? I'm pretty sure I know what the ducks were thinking, though: "What the HELL...?"

We do! I haven't posted about them because I haven't yet done an introduction because I don't have photo storage space (or rather I don't know how to use what I do have). That's a lot of becauses. Their names are Kaylee (let's call her a pewter mitt) and Fiona (a standard sable). We got them at Thanksgiving last year and have been making our way as a family (with all the hilarity and exasperation that goes along with such) since then. I will try to figure out the photo thing, but our pictures are not quite as cute as yours of Momo and Zoku. A couple come close, though!

Your babies sound precious! I can't wait to see the pictures when you do get them online. I'm glad you have ferrets in your life again. :)

She was life-threateningly cute (as you may remember--she's the smaller one with the white feet and the pink smile). I still don't know why she's so light. She must have hollow bones like a bird, because she did float! Fiona, on the other hand, has a skeleton of lead and very heavy muscles. If she had plunged in, she'd have sunk like a stone.

We have determined that going for a walk with the girls has to be the least aerobic form of "exercise" in the world. Between stopping every ten feet to answer questions* such as "Is that a squirrel/skunk/badger/raccoon/lemur?" and stopping every twelve feet because somebody needs to be picked up or put down or plucked out of a shrub or untangled from a vine... Honestly, my heart gets a better workout with a good game of Rocket Mania.

We'll figure out an opportunity for an outing, but be forewarned, it will be exceedingly leisurely!

*It just occurred to me that you might have some small experience with this yourself!
