I realize that I haven't updated this thing in a very long time. We have been incredibly busy, punctuated by periods of collapsing like a couple of felled oxen. The problem with going a really long time without updating is that the thought of trying to write a catch-up post is utterly daunting. So you put it off for one...more...day. Repeat ad infinitum.

My question to you all is this (and no, I can't do it as a real poll because I'm not a paid LJ member): Would it be better for me to just pick up where we are right now, or try to add a little bit of catch-up each day (what I can remember from the last six weeks anyway)?

This is newsworthy enough to post here: We gave our place a thorough cleaning* some days ago and it's STILL CLEAN! Somewhere out there, somebody with a list entitled "Countdown to Apocalypse" just checked off a box.

I have been *reading* all of you, of course, just not writing anything. And let me say a belated (everything is belated with me at the moment) hello to [livejournal.com profile] greenwood and [livejournal.com profile] vraptorz. Kate, have we had the pleasure of meeting in person? From reading your LJ, I see we have many of the same interests! Welcome, at any rate.

Must dash and hang up laundry. I tried to train my clothes to hang themselves up, but it's just not working. I threw a bunch of hangers onto the floor and encouraged the pile of shirts in that direction. They managed to wriggle themselves onto the hangers just fine--gosh, was I proud!--but they haven't made the cognitive leap required to get into the closet and up on the rod. Maybe I'm expecting too much of them too soon.

*I hate housecleaning with a purple passion. I don't know how to do it properly and kill most of a day lurching around with a spray bottle of Simple Green and 11 rolls of paper towels. It takes me for-frigging-ever.

YAYYYYYY!

YAY! An Update! And a clean house! What's that like?

I haven't felt like posting about this on my LJ yet:
I lost Punkin to kidney failure some weeks ago. I couldn't live without an aby in my life, so I now have an 11 week old ruddy abyssinian boy named Buckminster. Buckyball for short. He's already walking on a leash. Emma accepted him in 8 days (he's quite the charmer) whereas it took her 8 weeks to come to terms with Punkin. Now every morning Buckyball jumps on her head in greeting. Then she wipes the floor with him. It's so cute!!

When I have pictures to post I'll do something official on my LJ. I'd waited too long to tell you, though, so I thought I'd just slip it in here where you might not notice...

I'm so sorry about Punkin! Poor honey, and poor you.

That's so hard -- I'm sorry to hear about Punkin. But I'm really glad to hear you still have your catmenagerie.

Hugs,
Chris

Sorry to hear about Punkin. Please do post pictures of the new Bucky. Will you be at the Meetup on the 14th? Hope to see you!

I've added it to my calendar. Thanks for the reminder!

Oh, sweetie, I didn't know! You had stopped posting but I thought you were just busy. He should have been with you for many more years! I know how much you will miss him even though you have a Buckyball now. (By the way, that is such a great name.) I would love to see the pictures when you get them up.

I'd just update with recent stuff. Trying to update with everything is too hard. If you need to explain something, you can always add a little backstory later.
Send me good cleaning vibes: trying to get ready for a party this weekend. *L*

Do they have Simple Green in Japan? Because that's the stuff, I'm tellin' ya. Here's hoping everything comes clean the first time around and doesn't require a second scrubbing! Have a great party!

Pick up here and fill in as needed. yay! I pine to hear how you're doing.

Swiffer cloths. Buy em by the case.

Sometimes I use Swiffer-style cloths to dust the animals. There's no easy way to do that, have you noticed? Mine have so many fiddly bits. You can't Dustbuster them or use any solvents on account of the paint. Usually by the time I've worked my way to the last animal, the first one is dusty again. Curses.

Start here, fill in as you want. But yay! An update!

A spray bottle of Simple Green and a gazillion paper towels is how cleaning is approached in our house. After unearthing the couch from heaps of paper and books, that is.

I have found that covering your couch with heaps of paper and books is an excellent way to protect the upholstery from fading due to exposure to light!

Yup, add my voice to just post! Then you can add more later. I have the same problem and realize I've forgotten to post most of the important stuff because it happens during trying times when I can't post. Then to catch everyone up would take forever, thus no posts occur. Sigh. But I do backfill sometimes. I want to hear more from you, so any little PEEP is great!

Supposedly there is some LJ feature that lets you update by cell phone or something like that, right? Maybe that would work for you? But then all our posts would look like that classic Dilbert cartoon re: handwriting recognition - "Weave me a cone, you cupid bat!"

Not sure

I believe I bumped into your name as a friend of a friend, or possibly in one of our shared communities. I do live in Seattle and attend the Third Place Books poly discussion most Tuesdays, the Poly Meetup second Tuesdays, and various information security meetings other times. I also have friends in the SCA, SF cons, and the kinky community (imp_of_satan), etc. So perhaps our paths will cross??

That could be! We don't get out much in that community anymore, not as much as we would like. We had also dropped out of SCA events in the last year or so but plan to pick it up again next year. We may day-trip to Autumn War. If so, and you're there, come by the Clan Carn encampment! You cannot miss it, because (when fire danger levels permit) the entrance has two towers with giant flames shooting out the tops. One of our guys is kind of a pyrophile!
