Actually, it was an all-night lightning storm, no thunder, but still--!
Here, though, I was raving about life-threatening tornadoes. If God had wanted us to live in a tornado zone, He would have made them more like gentle zephyrs instead of something that can drive a piece of hay through a telephone pole.
I forgot to mention some cool words we heard over the last couple of days:
"mile-wide tornado" "400 tornadoes this year so far"
Heh.
Oddly, Hope couldn't care less about 220-mph winds; it's just thunder that scares her. Go figure. Probably guns, too.
Which reminds me! My brother is getting married later this month, so of course he's selling his Mossberg Bullpup with pistol-grip handle and short barrel. Kij's dream-gun!
uh, WM, anger is soooo not where your headspace should be. I mean, really.
I, like you, wish that Kij and Chris hadn't moved away, but if they want to wallow in the potentially fatal effects of the weather they're getting that's up to them, we just get to shake our heads and wear a perplexed look - y'know in the same way that we did everytime we saw whichever car Timmy was working on.
Oddly enough, even though earthquakes are far less frequent than tornadoes, the quakes scare me far more. The fact that you can't run from them I think is the thing that gets me. Quickly followed by the notion of being swallowed by the earth.
Good points. But as we learn in our expensive therapy, the anger results from the fear for their lives and limbs. "I'm so scared for XYZ! And now I'm angry because I don't like to feel scared! Stop putting me in a position where I will feel scared! Grr!"
Something like that, anyway. It all sounds much more impressive in situ.
My mom is always willing to save me a wad of cash too by telling me exactly what's wrong with me. ::more eye-rolling::
Hey, S and I miss spending time with you and PMB. Just in case there was any doubt. We're all busy and stressed and going a million miles an hour and there's not been time for Scorpion Bowls and Flaming Appetizers-n-Desserts at Luau Grill.
This is why WW and I live in lovely Seattle. Oh, sure, it's a wee bit damp. But the weather doesn't make serious attempts on one's life. Just remembering those winters (freezing death) and spring/summers (storm death) on the Great Plains gives me the willies. No wonder fall was my favorite time of year. I'll take the occasional earthquake any day. Those are almost like thrill rides.
Oh, man, you want a thrill ride, you stand outside your apartment in Kansas while a twister is tearing up the town just a couple miles away! And run inside the house every once in a while to watch the live news coverage (actually, be sure someone is always watching the news, just in case...).
I realized that I was riding the scoot home DURING the tornado -- that is, it was hopping over campus as I headed home. Man, I missed it! Shoot.
Doesn't get freezing in Kansas very often, but plenty of storms to kill ya! Heh. At least you can take cover from a tornado; good luck hiding from an earthquake or volcano.
I saw one of those once!

I'd go into it more but I'll leave that til we're actually chatting rather than posting in LJ.
