I'm crabalicious!
Aug. 14th, 2002 11:57 pmIt's hot and I'm crabby.
Tonight S took me to see Kodo for the fourth or fifth time. This year they moved to Benaroya Hall, which has awesome acoustics and industrial-strength air conditioning. Last time they were in Seattle, we took K & C along, and I was a little sad to be on our own this time. The important thing, though, is that S arranged and paid for this outing all on his own. I have always been the one in charge of our social life, making all the plans (and usually paying for them too). It felt really nice to be pampered in this way.
There's no use in bitching further about the heat, so I'll bitch about American Idol instead. Last week, in a stunning upset, Christina was voted off the show. It should have been Nikki or RJ, and they both knew it--especially RJ. No way was Christina the weakest performer. Tonight's theme was love songs by Burt Bacharach. I suppose it could have been worse in that it could have been Barry Manilow night. Nobody will be surprised to hear that Tamyra gave another absolutely stunning performance. Paula Abdul was in tears, and Simon said it was one of the best song performances on TV that he has ever seen, up there with Whitney and Celine (I know, I'm not fond of either of those divas myself). The obnoxiously smarmy Justin was back; I miss the outside-the-box Justin. Kelly sang well, but she always does; it's just that she gets overshadowed by Tamyra. RJ chose a really good song for his style. He has boy band written all over him, but unfortunately the heyday of the BBs is over. Simon started in with his usual critique of "you're out of your league, you're not an American Idol" and I think RJ had finally had enough. He just waved his hand at Simon and walked away to join the hosts on the dais. Paula thought this was great, and I have to agree. Simon stopped giving RJ constructive feedback long ago, so why should they waste anybody's time? Nikki gave a dreadful performance of "Always Something There to Remind Me" (yes, the new wave/pop song). I don't think she even hit any of the notes at the beginning, and I know she forgot or left out at least one line. Awful, awful. But was it bad enough to get her voted off tomorrow night? We'll see.
That's it for me.
