Whoever put together today's Bartell Drugs ad circular should be sacked. Not only did half the pages get printed without the magenta in CMYK, but the ad for Clairol Herbal Essences shampoo informs us in big red letters that it's on sale for $3.99, regularly $2.99. Gee, I'll rush right out and buy a bunch.

In other exciting news, we learn that a man in Tehran, Iran, beheaded his 7-year-old daughter after suspecting that she had been raped by her uncle. He says he did it to protect his fame, honor, and dignity. Autopsy results show she was still a virgin. This just goes to show you that where you and I have a brain, some people have a Whack-a-Mole game.

Feeling particularly cynical today. This is what happens when I get up at 7:45 a.m. on five hours of sleep. It could also be from the endless 9/11 anniversary--oh, excuse me, Patriot Day--drivel infesting the media. I'm not diminishing the tragic event itself, mind you. Just the drivel.

*ah* the bliss of my self-deprivation

so... with the new job/no job for months thing... My bills got *behind* ... so behind in fact that my cable company called to say "your service may be interrupted". Normally I would get right on it, cause I hate having my service interrupted on *anything*. it sucks...

but then, I thought... hmmm, I can scramble, and scrimp to pay this RIGHT AWAY and have *no* money for anything at all for a few more weeks... *or* I can let it be shut off, and have no tv for a couple of week... I might get things done then, and I could watch the movies I keep meaning to watch... hmmm...

and of course, I will *miss* all the 9/11 stuff....

and really... I am loving having no tv right now. I like the quiet it affords me, and I don't get that "am I missing a good show" feeling when I watch a film. I Just watched 7 samurai, and it was GREAT.... I spent most of the day watching it too. I love it. :D

I do feel your pain tho, all the 9/11 crap is enough to make anyone crazy. I am really glad that I am taking this break from media. It has helped me retain my sense of calm and sanity.

good luck babe. *hugs*

send some *smoochies* to Shawn for me too. ;)

Hello! I'm glad to hear you're letting your cable slide and giving your brain a vacation from the Great Glass Bubblegum (TV programming). We don't have cable either, partly because I hate TV shows (can you tell?) and partly because Shawn knows it would be the Death of Ambition if he were allowed to sit around and watch it. We also live in a signal shadow which means we don't get very good reception of network TV. I hope you enjoy your break so much that you decide to stick with it!

I wonder if on 9/11 everybody will be expected to run around all frowny-faced? Because I just don't have it in me to do this. If anybody confronts me for not weeping and wailing, I may be forced to slap a big "Get Over Yourself" sticker on their forehead. People who actually lost somebody in the attack have free rein for mourning, say I, but too many other people are just all about the drama. It's not like I'm going to be dancing in the street; it's just that there are lots of other tragic things that happen all around the world. How many people remember the Union Carbide explosion in Bhopal, for example? Fortunately, only about five people even read my LJ, so I don't expect to be inundated with lengthy harangues about how this was different*. Dead is dead.

On the plus side, it will be lovely to listen to Classic KING commercial-free all day.

*Of course I'm aware of the differences. I just don't want to read any lengthy harangues about 'em.

as far as I have seen the only difference between what happened on 9/11 last year and the terrorism that happens *every day* elsewhere is that it happened *here*.

This county is populated with hoards of hypocrits if you ask me. If you are going to mourn the "tragedy", mourn the tragedies that occur every fucking day. Good lord, it doesn't take a genius.

I do know a couple of people that lost loved ones in New York. For them I think it is a good time to Greive and all. :)

I will go back to having cable again this weekend. I like some stuff on tv and I miss cartoons.
