A long and fun day with K & C. S and I went to see "Reign of Fire" with C only, because we couldn't persuade K to join us no matter how many lies we told. (She is very savvy this way and wouldn't go see "Exorcist" with me even though I told her they remade it as a musical.) It was just as well she didn't go.

Ehhhhhh...not really the movie I expected it to be, especially considering the reviewer in the Times gave it 3.5 stars. Dude must have been a stone geek. Anyway, I hoped the movie would show us how the dragons took over the world, but instead all we got was a cheap montage of magazine headlines and pictures about the destruction. Feh. I never really felt involved with the characters or their plight. Also, movie makers either need to lay off the thick accents or subtitle their flicks, because I couldn't understand half of what Quinn (Christian Bale) was saying. Toward the end of the movie I stupidly rubbed my eye with the same hand I had used earlier to pet cats and immediately went into allergy mode. I ended up in the bathroom dealing with my eyeballs for about ten minutes and returned just in time for the final two minutes of the film, having missed the penultimate climax. I will say, however, that the dragons looked pretty good. Mean and snaky. I'd run away.

Then back to pick up K and drag her to lunch. She thoughtfully provided me with a Drixoral for my allergy attack and that's when my day took a turn for the weird. I can't believe they sell this stuff over the counter! As it kicked in, I remember reporting the effects aloud: "My feet are so far away!" "Now I can't feel my knees!" "Each individual hair on my head is standing up and waving around!" I was so sleepy and yet preternaturally awake. Wild stuff. Remind me not to take it again.

After a spirited discussion of Jeeves and Wooster at lunch, we decided to rent the movie "Wilde" so we could see another aspect of actor Stephen Fry. Actually his performance turned out to be a gay version of Jeeves, but that was fine too. We all decided that Jude Law is unnervingly beautiful. In a perhaps unfortunate juxtaposition, we went directly to "Harry Potter" after "Wilde." This led to K's confession that she knows more about Harry Potter slash fiction than she really should.

All weirdness aside, it was wonderful to (metaphorically) roll around on the floor with our best friends and cover ourselves in their good smells. We missed them.
