The giddy social whirl.
Dec. 8th, 2002 11:11 pmThis evening S took me to see Zoolights at the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium, which is one of the few holiday traditions we have. I think this may be the area's original lavish light display; now everybody has one, including Safeco Field. The zoo blasts classical music, drapes every tree and bush in nets of lights, and places animal cutouts outlined in lights, some of which simulate moving animals. We bundle up against the cold and wander the grounds, cocoa in hand, greeting the old familiar animals (the eagle catching a salmon, the bear getting into the beehive, the Cheshire cat fading away and leaving just a grin in the tree). This would be the perfect romantic outing if only the zoo would prohibit children from attending. The beautiful light displays and (traditional religious) Christmas music are about the only things that get me through this season, aside from spending time with friends. Weather permitting, some other things we'll be doing include visiting a local (rich!) neighborhood with truly elaborate lighting displays, and attending the Green Lake volksmarch and caroling, where they line the shores of the lake with luminaria. Last year this event got rained out, but we bravely hung in there along with several bands of damp carolers. Memo to self: Bring a little travel umbrella this year.
Other than this, the rest of our weekend was pretty much like it was on Sunday, October 27. We stayed inside, I never got out of my pj's, and we holed up in the computer room and screwed around online all day. I should enjoy this lax time, as next weekend brings the international motorcycle show and the volksmarch and S's ham radio class and probably other things that I'm forgetting...
Still no concrete movement on the job front. I might get hired as early as this Friday. I might get hired by the end of January. The personnel req might get completely shot down and I won't get hired at all. There's just no way of knowing. In the meantime, between this job uncertainty and the stupid holidays, I'm flaky and prone to panic attacks.
On the plus side, the holidays bring satsuma oranges to the grocery stores. I loves me as many satsumas as I can cram down my gullet. In fact, I'm going to go eat #5 right now.
