We hit September and boom, instant clouds and rain showers. Oh, I know we'll have a resurgence of summery weather, perhaps even as late as October. I remember past Octobers where we've had 80-degree weather. But for now I'm sad, because we were supposed to go out on the bikes but couldn't.

It's hard to get too amped about a "three-day weekend" when you're not working, but I know S enjoyed having a day off. Saturday was great because we went to the Northwest Trek Wildlife Park. The park has sweeping habitats of bison and deer and elk and moose as well as predator habitats for wolves, bears, and cats. But we always spend most of our time in the small forest animal areas, planted in front of the fishers and the otters. The female fisher may be the world's cutest animal with her sweet pointed face and bright little eyes. One of the river otters kept trying to jam himself into an aperture on the wall about ten inches square. Of course he looked ridiculous with assorted parts jutting out at odd angles, until finally his wet body would squirt out of the little hole and splash into the pond. Being a true weasel at heart, he failed to be discouraged by this. The female badger also seemed to be a genial little thing; she wagged her tail when S leaned over the wall and cooed at her.

The rest of the weekend was spent watching movies, especially the obsessive special features of movies like Titus and Lord of the Rings. What used to be a two-hour diversion can now, if you do it right, kill most of the day.
