Any 7/4 celebration where you come home with the same number of fingers you left with is a good time.

We spent the day at the house of PMB and artiste husband. I had never been to one of their 7/4 gatherings, as I always had other obligations, but "madhouse" doesn't come close to describing it. I have no idea how many people came and went because everybody was in black (goths, you know) and looked vaguely alike. Artiste is as British as they come and it seemed clear that he would happily repress us all under his big Thumb o' Empire once again. So I beat him at croquet, and then S beat him at various Xbox games. Go colonists! Lovely and talented people brought wonderful food including heavenly lime cookies (so light and buttery and piquant) and Cuban flank steak and rich chocolate Bundt cake and luxurious seafood pasta salad and martinis made with vanilla Stoli and Godiva liqueur. PMB couldn't wait for it to get really dark and busted out the sparklers early. It was such a pleasure to watch her careening around the yard with major sparklers in each hand. S dutifully followed behind with a jug of water, extinguishing several small but earnest grass fires.

Afterward S and I headed up onto the Hill to the fabulous urban apartment of our friend L where we met up with Sc and Je. L's apartment has the most astonishing view westward and we were perfectly positioned to see the two major firework displays over the city. Truly a spectacular vantage point.

We stopped by K & C's to check on the kitties and see if anyone had infarcted from stress. They were, in fact, perfectly fine.
